Tributes have been paid to a homeless man who died on Saturday.
John ‘Big John’ West, who was often seen outside the Halifax branch in the High Street, was believed to be in his 60s and was often seen with ‘a book in hand’.
Sue Brett, co-founder of The Brett Foundation, said: “Everyone knew him, he would often be seen reading outside Halifax.
“That was the spot. He told us it was because he could catch the sun there.
“He was a very intelligent man. He was called Big John because we used to have a Little John and it was how we told them apart. He will be hugely missed by everyone whose lives he touched.”
It is believed John died from a chest infection.
The Brett Foundation is arranging his funeral.
Any donations towards the cost can be dropped off at The Kindness Shop.
