The Prime Minister was among the congregation at the service of collation and induction of the new vicar at St Peter's Church.
More than 220 people including Theresa May MP attended the service on Thursday, September 28 to welcome the Rev David Short as the new vicar.
The Bishop of Reading, Andrew Proud presided at the service, seeing Mr Short installed as the new vicar of St Peter’s and St Mark’s churches.
Mr Short said: “I am looking forward immensely to this new challenge and to working with the churches and many others to serve our local community and to build the life of the church.
“It was a pleasure to have the Prime Minister there. She was emphatic about what a great community we had arrived in.”
The post oversees the two churches, St Peter’s in St Peter’s Road, has a contemporary service with many young families, and St Mark’s Church in St Mark's Hospital.
