'Good' Ofsted rating for Furze Platt Senior School

Pupils, staff and parents are celebrating after a school bounced back from a poor Ofsted inspection.

Furze Platt Senior School, in Furze Platt Road, Maidenhead, has been given a rating of 'Good' in all areas in its latest report, which was released today (Wednesday).

It follows an assessment carried out in February 2015 which graded it 'Requires Improvement' in all areas except Sixth Form provision, where it was found to be 'Good'.

The latest report, which follows an inspection in September, stated headteacher Tanya White had ‘led the improvement of the school ably’ and praising the ‘strong, effective systems of accountability’ put in place since the last visit to address weaknesses.

Speaking about the new report, Ms White said: “Ofsted have yet again highlighted the many strengths of our school with a report which praises the achievements and behaviour of students, as well as the effectiveness of teaching and leadership.

“We are all delighted with the report which recognises us as the high achieving and successful school we work so hard to be.

“Staff and students deserve to be very proud.”

The sixth form was also singled out, with students found to be ‘good role models for younger pupils’.

However, it was also noted that in order to achieve a higher rating persistent absences by ‘disadvantaged pupils’ would need to be addressed.

And teachers were also encouraged to improve provision for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities, as well as offering greater challenges for all others, but ‘particularly the most able’.

Chair of governors Gavin Tisshaw said: “We are pleased that findings from the recent Ofsted visit clearly demonstrate what a good school Furze Platt Senior School truly is.

“The commitment and support of teachers, staff, students, parents and governors alike continue to make this a safe, successful, inclusive and ambitious secondary school.”
