Work to replace a former hotel with a block of flats has started.
Builders have been seen at the Elva Lodge Hotel site, in Castle Hill, which had been run for 50 years by the family of Cllr Paul Lion (Con, Boyn Hill).
Planning permission to demolish the original building and construct a three-storey, 13-apartment replacement was granted in May.
At the time, Cllr Lion’s wife, Laura, said she expected the business to continue trading until Christmas, but this week she confirmed work had started early following a request from the developer. The 26-room hotel, which celebrated its 50th year in January, was known for displaying quotes on a chalkboard outside.
