A Maidenhead man has been handed an 18-month community order and must stay on the Sex Offender’s Register for five years for sexual assault.
Simon Harrison, 48, of Leighton Gardens, was also told to pay costs of £770, given a 12-month restraining order and ordered to undertake 15 days of a rehabilitation activity requirement.
He had pleaded not guilty to the charge of touching a woman aged 16 or over without consent on Monday, April 11, and was found guilty on Thursday, August 18.
He was sentenced at Reading Magistrates Court by District Judge Davinder Lachhar this morning.
The court heard how Harrison approached the victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, in July 2015, in Reading.
It heard he moved in to hug her and she felt him trying to undo her bra strap.
She pushed him away before he ‘brushed’ her breast over her clothing with his hand.
She then reported it to the police.
Her victim impact statement, read out in court, said: “I was shocked when he tried to hug me.
“I was thinking I could not believe he just did that.”
Paramedics were called to the scene of a medical emergency in Maidenhead on Monday morning (June 27).
