Sports fans may need to find a new watering hole after the man behind Bar Sport Maidenhead announced he had ‘no intention’ of reopening the popular bar.
The King Street bar, which is part of a nationwide franchise, announced in July that it would be shutting for a short period of time to undergo ‘essential refurbishment and maintenance works.”
But a sign has now gone up on the bar’s front door stating that the premises has been recovered by landlord Spirit Pub Company, part of Greene King.
Kareem Naaman, who set up the Maidenhead franchise, told the Advertiser: “I had agreed to sell the bar but the buyer pulled out at the last minute.
“I have no intention to reopen Bar Sport but I am aware of a number of parties who are working to get the bar open again as soon as possible.
“Whether it re-opens as Bar Sport or under a new name I could not tell you. That is all I can say at the moment.”
Back in August 2014 Bar Sport won the Best Sports Pub award for the South-east and London region in the Great British Pub Awards for the second year running.
