Roadworks have begun which will see the creation of a footpath in Oldfield Road to enable students to walk to school safely.
The roadworks will be in place for eight weeks, however the the council is hoping the footpath will be ready in time for September.
Cllr Phill Bicknell (Con, Park), cabinet member for highways and transport said: "We're creating a footpath so the children can get to Oldfield School safely.
"With the expansion of the school, more students are now coming from the other direction.
"There was no footpath there before so we are digging up a ditch.
