Maidenhead United have reduced ticket prices for Saturday’s (September 13) FA Cup second qualifying round clash with Faversham Town in a bid to boost the attendance and atmosphere.
The Magpies are keen to attract more supporters through the turnstiles for their first FA Cup clash and create an atmosphere that will help the team in their bid to make it five straight wins in all competitions.
Those four league wins have lifted the Magpies to fifth in the National League South with the latest of those coming against Chelmsford City at York Road last Saturday. They won that match in dramatic fashion with Josh Popoola turning home a 92nd minute winner, moments after the Clarets had equalised through Jack Barham.
While gold and silver memberships are not valid for this fixture, the club have reduced entry to £10 for adults
The full list of prices is as follows: Adults: £10; Concessions (Over 65/UB40/Student/Disabled): £5; Next Generation (17-22 Years Old): £5; U17s: £2.
Hospitality packages are also available for the match, starting at £17pp for u17s and rising to £40 for adults.
United enter the competition at this round for the first time in eight seasons, following their relegation from the National League.
They will though have their sights set on reaching the first round once again, and perhaps even breaking their duck of reaching the second round – something they haven’t achieved for nearly 140 years.
First though, they’ll have to see off step 4 side Faversham Town, who assistant boss Ryan Peters admitted would be tricky opponents, with a ‘spring in their step’ to pull off an upset.
Strangely enough, the two sides have met at this exact stage of the competition 11 years ago, with former Premier League striker DJ Campbell on target for the Magpies in a 4-0 win.
Danny Green opened the scoring from the spot before Campbell’s deflected strike made it 2-0 on 70 minutes. Tashan Adeyinka scored their third while the always lively, Reece Tilson-Lascaris netted their fourth as the Magpies eased into the third qualifying round.
Faversham will be keen to upset the odds having made a fine start to the season in the Isthmian League South East Division. The Lilywhites sit top of the table with 10 points from their first four matches having scored 13 goals in the process. Those stats though were padded out by the six goals they scored in a 6-1 win over Deal Town. Still, the Magpies ought to be wary of their free-scoring visitors.
They arrive at York Road having tripped up in the FA Trophy, however, bowing out of that competition at the first qualifying round stage after a 2-1 defeat at Sittingbourne.
The Maidenhead United website also notes that ‘the town of Faversham is home to Britain’s oldest brewery, Shepherd Neame, which has had brewing take place at the site since 1573.
'Perhaps best known for great British classic ales such as Spitfire, produced to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Britain while also carrying the Royal Warrant.
'Shepherd Neame also brew international lagers under licence including Samuel Adams Boston Lager, and are the sole UK distributor for premium Thai lager Singha and Truly Hard Seltzer’.
