Maidenhead United announced their third signing of the summer on Friday, with goalkeeper Jordi van Stappershoef joining the club after two seasons with Aldershot Town in the National League.

With the Magpies having parted ways with former number one, Craig Ross following their relegation from the National League last season, United are in need of a new keeper to help them in their bid to get back to the top level of non-league football as quickly as possible.

After eight successive seasons in the topflight, United have been demoted back to the National League South and are in the process of moulding a team capable of competing for promotion - and possibly even the title.

So far, United have signed Jordan Ragguette after an impressive season for the left back at Salisbury, while Asher Yearwood scored and assisted plenty of goals for Gosport Borough in step 3 last season.

Stappershoef joins the Magpies after falling out of favour with Shots’ boss Tommy Widdrington at the EBB Stadium.

After a period in his native Netherlands playing for AZ Alkmaar’s reserve team and then AFC Amsterdam in the third tier of Dutch football, Stappershoef returned to the UK to play for The Shots ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

Quickly establishing himself as the club’s number one, he made 49 appearances that season as The Shots finished just outside of the play-offs in eighth place. This season he spent more time on the substitute’s bench behind Marcus Dewhurst as the club finished 16th, however, they did also lift the FA Trophy at Wembley.

Stappershoef first came to the UK from the Netherlands in 2019 when he signed for Bristol Rovers on a free transfer from Jong Volendam.

He made 26 appearances across two seasons at the Memorial Stadium before returning to the Netherlands for a spell before being signed by Tommy Widdrington for The Shots in 2023.

Maidenhead United posted on X: “We are thrilled to announce the signing of goalkeeper Jordi van Stappershoef.

“The 29-year-old joins the Magpies after a two-year tenure at Aldershot Town.”

Alongside their three signings so far this summer, United have also managed to persuade defender Will de Havilland and midfielder Jayden Mitchell-Lawson to commit to the club for the 2025/26 season. The club is also in discussion with a few more of last season’s squad who they hope will also put pen to paper on new deals at York Road.
