Maidenhead United sign goalkeeper Gyollai on permanent basis

Maidenhead United have managed to secure the services of Hungarian goalkeeper Dan Gyollai on a permanent basis from Peterborough United.

The 24-year-old keeper was initially signed to see the Magpies through the Christmas and New Year period, after Rhys Lovett signed for National League South side Billericay Town.

However, his performances have been so impressive, Alan Devonshire was keen to get him tied down to a longer contract. Gyollai pulled off a string of great saves on his debut, as United got the better of Bromley 1-0 at York Road and he also played well in the side’s 1-1 draw at Aldershot Town on Saturday.

Gyollai has been capped for Hungary at u18s/19s/21s level and played for Bekescsaba 1912 and Honved before moving to the UK to sign for Stoke City.

United started this season with James Holden and Lovett as their two keepers, but Lovett moved to Billericay before Christmas and Holden has also now been recalled by Championship side Reading.

BT Sport have selected Maidenhead’s home game with Boreham Wood for live coverage on Saturday, February 19.

The kick-off time will be pushed back to 5.20pm to enable the game to be televised.

Boreham Wood are one of several teams in the promotion hunt this season and on Saturday they reached the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 2-0 win over AFC Wimbledon.

Former Magpie Adrian Clifton sealed the victory late on with a well-taken volley.

Clifton is not the only former Maidenhead player in the Wood squad, however, with Taye Ashby-Hammond, James Comley and Danilo Orsi-Dadomo – who scored his first goal in Tuesday’s 1-0 win over Wealdstone – also with the Hertfordshire side.
