Goalkeeper Rhys Lovett was released by Maidenhead United last week and his place in the squad looks set to be taken by Peterborough United loanee Daniel Gyollai subject to FA clearance.

Following his release Lovett signed for National League South strugglers, Billericay Town, and helped them keep a clean sheet in Saturday’s goalless draw with Chelmsford City.

Lovett made 15 appearances for United after signing from Gloucester City in April, but he’ll be best remembered for his goalscoring cameo as an outfield substitute in the Magpies’ 4-1 win at Boreham Wood on the final day of last season.

Brought on for Josh Kelly in the second half, Lovett was in the right place at the right time to turn home Danilo Orsi-Dadomo’s low cross in injury-time to spark great scenes of celebration on the pitch and touchline.

A statement on the club’s website thanked Rhys for his efforts during his spell with the club and wished him well for the future.

Due to the spread of COVID cases in the Maidenhead camp, Tuesday’s Berks & Bucks Senior Cup tie at Ascot United has been postponed, meaning the Magpies will get back to competitive action at Wealdstone FC on Boxing Day (Sunday).
The ongoing COVID situation also led to the Magpies withdrawal from the FA Trophy on Saturday, with opponents Maidstone United handed a bye to the next round. The Stones were drawn away at National League promotion hopefuls Boreham Wood in this afternoon’s (Monday) draw.
