Maidenhead United kick off their county cup campaign against Binfield tonight

Mohammad Ilyas

Home comforts for the Magpies as they begin their Berks & Bucks Senior Cup campaign tonight (Tuesday) against Binfield FC at York Road (7.45pm kick-off).

Binfield, who are meeting the Magpies in a competitive clash for the first ever time, should prove a stern test for Alan Devonshire side, having won four of their last five matches, including a 4-0 dismantlement of Uckfield to progress into the last 32 of the FA Vase.

With the senior squad stretched by injury, illness and unavailability, Devonshire is likely to field an inexperienced side for the clash, made up of first team players who need minutes and youth team players.

Shamir Fenelon is in line for a return to the side following injury, while Joe Ellul's two match ban doesn't include the county cup so he's also eligible to play.

Bernard Mensah and Ibra Sekajja have been looking for opportunities to impress while Freddie Grant is also in contention for a start.

Fans will be interested to see which youth team players are drafted into the first team for the contest with defender Taro Chitepo and goalkeeper Fred Chapman recently called up for the England Colleges FA side.

The Moles, who play in the UHLsport Hellenic Premier Division, beat fellow division rivals Burnham to advance past the preliminary round of the B&B Senior Cup.

Maidenhead themselves have pedigree in the competition, having won it two seasons ago against Hungerford Town at Arbour Park. While Devonshire has won the competition five times over his two spells as Maidenhead manager.

The Magpies beat Holmer Green and Aylesbury United in the competition last season before losing 4-3 on penalties to Reading FC after a 1-1 draw at York Road.

Should the scores be level after 90 minutes a penalty shoot-out will determine the winner of tonight’s tie.

Admission prices are £10 for adults, £5 for concessions (over 65s/students) and £2 for u16s.
