Maidenhead United have been granted official academy status by the National league for the upcoming season.
In a bid to raise the professionalism of National League Academies to fall in line with EPPP and Premier League standards, the National League set out to audit all Academies who had applied to reach approved National League Academy status with Maidenhead becoming one of only 23 clubs to achieve the prestigious recognition.
MUFC Academy manager Aaron O’Brien said: “To achieve this recognition has been the result of a tremendous amount of hard work and dedication from a number of people involved”.
And there was double celebration for the Academy section of the club as the young Magpies recorded a winning double on the first day of their Catalunya Cup campaign in Spain.
Whitstable Academy were defeated by two Reece Smith goals to nil before Swedish outfit Sodra Sanby IF were defeated 3-1 thanks to goals from Smith, Liam Tyler and Joe Bowles.
