Maidenhead United u18s weren’t at the races in Monday's 3-0 home defeat by Ascot United, a result which means the title race is likely to go down to the wire.
The Magpies continue to head up the Allied Counties Youth League with 44 points, but a clutch of teams behind them have matches in hand going into the final weeks of the season. If fourth placed Hanworth Villa were to win all of their matches in hand they’d go above the Magpies by a point.
On Monday night they suffered a second defeat in three matches. It was also their third league match without victory.
The young Magpies never settled to their task in front of the 70 spectators and were two goals down by the 15 minute mark. Forder netted twice for the Yellamen after Maggs had slotted in the opener.
The Magpies have two games left but know that teams with games in hand elsewhere mean they’re no longer masters of their own destiny.
They’re set to host bottom club Hartley Wintney tomorrow night (Thursday).
