Sam Lock says there’s no reason why James Akintunde can’t kick on and reach double figures after scoring his first goal of the season in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Boreham Wood.
Akintunde, a second half replacement for Josh Kelly, took Adrian Clifton’s pass in his stride before slotting the ball beyond George Legg in the 74th minute.
He’d early missed a golden chance to give United the lead from his very first touch, but his introduction gave the Magpies an added attacking dimension that kept Boreham on the back foot in the second half.
“It couldn’t have happened to a nicer lad,” said Lock.
“He puts it in day in, day out in training and works really hard. He wants to please and do well and I hope that now gives him the platform to push on and do well.
“I believe there’s no reason why he can’t kick on and get double figures this year. He’s that type of player. Everyone’s buzzing with confidence, it’s a really good day.”
