Braintree Town 0, Maidenhead United 2
First half goals from Adrian Clifton and Ayo Obileye earned Maidenhead United victory at Braintree Town on Monday, and a second three-point haul from the Bank Holiday weekend.
The Magpies are up from bottom place to 18th in the National League following a hard working win at the Ironmongery Direct Stadium, a ground manager Alan Devonshire knows well having previously managed Braintree.
A promising start for the Magpies was capped on 28 minutes when Adrian Clifton drove home a half-volley from a Herson Alves knock down.
The visitors continued to press, scoring a impressive second goal on 45 minutes when centre half Ayo Obileye powerfully headed in a Remy Clerima cross.
The second half was scrappier than the first but as the match wore on it was the Magpies who seemed most likely to add to the score as Josh Kelly, Nana Owusu and James Akintunde went close.
The hosts threatened but were kept at arms length as the Magpies kept a clean sheet for the first time this season.
The Magpies have back-to-back home matches next week starting on Saturday against Bromley and then Tuesday against Eastleigh.
Magpies v Braintree: Pentney, Clerima, Odametey, Obileye, Alves, Kelly Akintunde, 69), Cole, Clifton (Smith, 76), Upward, Massey, Mulley (Owusu, 70). Unused subs: Bird, Peters.
