Devonshire looking for Maidenhead United to impose themselves on Woking FC

Alan Devonshire will be looking for the Magpies to impose themselves on Woking when Anthony Limbrick’s side visits York Road on Saturday.

The Magpies have had the edge over the Cards in the two matches they’ve played this season and Devonshire is hopeful that trend will continue at the weekend.

If his side can bring their usual intensity to bear on Woking, Devonshire is confident they’ll collapse like a pack of cards. But they’re sweating on the fitness of defenders Remy Clerima and Rene Steer, while the in-form Harry Pritchard limped out of Saturday’s agonising late defeat at leaders Macclesfield Town.

Woking have slipped out of promotion contention in recent months and sit 15th in the table, four points behind the Magpies, ahead of Saturday’s clash.

“Saturday will be a tough game,” said Devonshire. “They’re a decent side and they picked up a good draw at home to Boreham Wood on Saturday.

“Look, we know it will be a tough game but it’s about us and how well we can impose ourselves on Woking. We’ve won our last couple of games (before Saturday’s loss to Macclesfield) and if we can bring our usual intensity I’d like to think that we can get the win.”

With the players feeling the effects of their efforts at Macclesfield on Saturday, it was perhaps a blessing in disguise that Tuesday’s trip to Boreham Wood was postponed. With the cold weather still biting the region, Saturday’s match at York Road is also under threat but Devonshire wants the game to go ahead and is keen to get a first look at new loan signing from Reading FC, Gabriel Osho.

“We’ve done okay against Woking this season and hopefully that will continue on Saturday,” said Devonshire, “but we don’t yet know if the match will go ahead. We don’t want the game to be off because we don’t want too many more Saturday/Tuesday weeks. That doesn’t help us at all.”

On Osho he added: “I like the look of the lad. He’ll be getting a start on Saturday and I’m looking forward to seeing him play. He’s a nice lad with a good attitude, so hopefully this move will work for him and for us.”
