Alan Devonshire thought Maidenhead United did just about enough to claim victory at the first attempt against Stockport County on Saturday.
The two teams will slug it out at Edgeley Park this evening for a place in the quarter-finals of the FA Trophy, and a home tie with Brackley Town on February 24
Ryan Upward was on hand to sweep home the equaliser in the second half on Saturday, after Matty Warburton had fired County into an eighth minute lead.
“They (Stockport) did well and made it hard for us,” said Devonshire.
“We could have won it at the end, couldn’t we. I thought we played better second half.
“Yeah, maybe we weren’t at it (from the start) when we should have been.
“But I’m not going to criticise the players. The pitch was really heavy.
“I don’t think we played that well but thought we might have done just enough.
“Ryan (Upward) is a good player. He could have won it at the end as well, the keeper’s pulled off a hell of a save, but it is what it is.”
