Pritchard insists Maidenhead United will take Wrexham defeat on the chin

HARRY Pritchard has backed his teammates to take Tuesday’s defeat against Wrexham on the chin and come back fighting.

United dominated large swathes of the contest at York Road and had the chances to grab a winner themselves, but Manny Smith’s double sent them tumbling to a first defeat in the league on a historic night for the club.

United produced an improved performance from Saturday’s draw at Maidstone but Pritchard accepted they’ll have to be a lot more savvy in defence if they’re to prosper in this league.

“They’ve had two chances and they’ve scored both of them,” said Pritchard.

“Last year teams probably wouldn’t have scored them but this year you’re going to get punished.

“We’ve just got to learn from those mistakes.

“I thought we played well and deserved something out of the game, whether that’s a point or all three points but, yeah, we go again Saturday.

“We played better than we did on Saturday and we’ve lost,” he added.

“That’s the thing with this league. But we go again on Saturday.

“It’s going to be tough but who knows perhaps we can get the three points.

“We knew we had to go for it. We don’t want to be losing at home but it’s just a shame we didn’t get that goal.

“Their goals were pretty similar. There was a lack of communication between the defenders and the keeper. But we learn from them.

“They put in two very good crosses, but that’s what you get in this league.

“We’ll dust ourselves down and go again.”
