Parrott calls on the Government to 'grow a backbone' and give RFU and clubs a start date for the new season

Myke Parrott has called on the Government to grow a backbone and bring about a further relaxation in restrictions which will enable clubs like Maidenhead to get back to league action.

The club’s director of rugby said he’s praying for the RFU to sanction the return of league rugby from the beginning of January, however, the way this Government has handled the pandemic he fears it could easily go the other way.

He said: “We pray but with this incompetent Government who knows which way it will go?

“It could go the other way. We’re hoping that someone grows a backbone soon and gives us a start date and they start allowing supporters back into grounds as well, because clubs are going to go under.

“Bigger clubs than Maidenhead. We’re in a relatively good position compared to some but there are going to be some big, big names that go under.

“Championship clubs, not all of them are going to survive, no way. So, we’ve got to get on with it and start letting fans back in and we’ve got to get back to rugby.”
