Claires Court u15s rugby team produced a superb all-round performance to secure a 41–5 victory over Southend High School in the Continental Tyres National Vase Regional Final, capping off an outstanding cup run in emphatic fashion.
Playing with confidence and composure from the opening whistle, Claires Court quickly imposed themselves on the game. Outstanding early pressure was rewarded when No.8 Frank Vorster-Davidson powered over from the base of a scrum to score the opening try, setting the tone for what would become a commanding display.
Claires Court’s outstanding defensive presence proved to be the platform for their success, repeatedly keeping Southend High School’s attack at bay.
Well-organised tackling, strong breakdown work and disciplined line speed created numerous opportunities to regain possession and launch dangerous counter-attacks.
The pack laid firm foundations throughout the contest, allowing the backs to exploit space with quick ball and intelligent support play. Further tries came from Trinder, Melville-Jackson, Robertson (2), Vorster-Davison and Eyton-Jones as Claires Court built a commanding lead.
To their credit, Southend High School continued to compete and were rewarded with a try of their own, but Claires Court responded immediately, maintaining their intensity and composure. Captain Ewan Garrett added to the scoreboard with three well-taken conversions.
The 41–5 victory confirms a memorable triumph in a prestigious national competition and sees the team equal the furthest a Claires Court side has progressed in the tournament.
The result is a testament to the players’ hard work, teamwork and commitment throughout the season, as well as the dedication of the coaching staff and the support of parents and the wider school community.
The squad now progress to the quarter final where they will play Maidstone Grammar on Friday, February 6.
