Winslow United 0, Maidenhead United 4
Maidenhead United will host Reading’s u21s side in the quarter finals of the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup after overcoming Winslow United 4-0 away from home last night.
The Magpies have been going through a rough time of late, with Saturday’s dismal exit from the FA Trophy at the hands of struggling Leamington seemingly the final straw for some travelling supporters, who turned on the management team and players post-match.
A run of five defeats from six winless games in the National League South has heaped the pressure on the side to get some results, and they managed to avoid further embarrassment last night (Tuesday) with a controlled and disciplined display away to Winslow of the Spartan South Midlands Football League.
In soggy conditions at Elmsfield Gate, the Magpies raced into a two-goal half-time lead thanks to a brace from Corie Andrews.
A fantastic strike from Kai Yearn made it 3-0 in the second half and Noah Stewart continued his form in this competition with the side’s fourth before the end.
The result won’t do too much to appease supporters frustrated by the side’s faltering form, but the hope is that it bolsters the team’s confidence ahead of Saturday’s crucial league game at Dagenham & Redbridge.
That will be a truer test of whether this Magpies team can turn around their poor form, but they’ve shown already this campaign they are capable of putting together a series of positive results and performances.
Elsewhere in the final eight, Hungerford Town will host the winners of Chesham United and Milton Keynes Dons, Bracknell Town will host Wycombe Wanderers and Slough Town will entertain Abingdon United.
The quarter final ties are scheduled to take place on Tuesday, December 9.
