She’s been a talismanic presence for Maidenhead United Women over the past couple of seasons, but Imogen Fisher is moving on to pastures new having played her final game for the club.

Speaking after Sunday’s 4-2 win over Haywards Heath Town Women in the FA Women’s National League Plate, Imogen said she’s gutted to be leaving the club, adding that her ‘football friends have become her family’.

She bowed out on a high, however, with the Magpies coming from behind to beat Haywards Heath at the 1878 Stadium with goals from Macey Nikiah-Walters, Izzy Stockton, Sarah Thompson, and Simone O’Brien. They progress to the final eight of the FA Women’s National League Plate where they’ll host Cambridge United Women (date in the new year to be confirmed).

A leader on the field and a good team player, Imogen will be greatly missed by her teammates, and they showed her just how much by giving her a guard of honour off the field following Sunday’s win. Bouncing back from the club’s disappointing FA Cup defeat to Southampton Women’s FC, it was the perfect way for Imogen to sign off as a Magpie.

After the game she sat down with Maidenhead United club secretary Neil Maskell to discuss the game and her time with the club.

“It’s sad times,” she said.

“I thought we played some good football today. The second half was quite scrappy, but we dug deep to go through in the cup.

“It was a positive game. We played some good football, and you can see that what we’re doing in training is coming out in matches.

“It’s just a shame that it took us to half-time to push through.”

She added: “I’m gutted to be going. It’s the worst thing about my job to be honest, having to move. It’s the same with where I was before.

“It’s a football club that I love, my football friends become my family and it’s the same with the coaches so, I’m gutted to leave and hopefully I’ll find a new team after Christmas. I’m gutted to leave, and I’ve loved being with the girls.”

Having scored 12 goals in 31 appearances for the Magpies, Imogen has been a key reason for the club’s uptick in form over the past couple of seasons. She’s also helped the team break their record number of goals in all competitions this season – with half a season still to play.

Manager Ed Jackson-Norris will also be gutted to see Imogen leave, however, her worked int he armed forces means she’s moving away from the area and can no longer commit to the Magpies. Once settled she hopes to find a new club to play for in the new year.

Earlier this year, Imogen scored a brilliant brace for the Army Women’s team in a match against the Navy Women’s team.
