Assistant boss Ryan Peters called on Maidenhead United fans to come and support the team against Dagenham & Redbridge this evening (Tuesday), feeling the side have ‘turned a corner’ after back-to-back National League wins.

The Magpies were excellent in last week’s 2-0 home win over Yeovil Town at York Road and, while Saturday’s display at FC Halifax Town was slightly more ‘indifferent’, an excellent defensive display helped the side to a 1-0 win.

Ashley Nathaniel-George scored the game’s only goal, advancing on the Shaymen area and thumping home from just inside the box after he was released by good play from Kane Ferdinand and Reece Smith.

Reflecting on the win, which lifts the Magpies to 14th in the table and seven points clear of the drop zone, Peters told Grace Scott: “We’ve had two massive results and two massive performances.

“We were slightly indifferent today, but collectively and defensively we were really solid.

“Ash adds a little bit of quality to our game.

“He spoke to us before the game about trying to get more advanced and into positions to score a goal and then he popped up with a goal.

He added: “The mood is good, really strong. I’m sure if you went back into the changing room now, you’d hear the music blazing. It’s amazing what a win can do and we’ll carry on in the same vein.”

After a long trip up to Yorkshire on Saturday, Peters feels the Magpies will need the fans onside for this evening’s visit of the Daggers. United produced an excellent 2-0 win over Dagenham in the FA Trophy earlier this season, however, this evening’s visitors come into the clash fresh from a 2-1 away win over league leaders Notts County on Saturday, a result has given the National League title race a big twist.

“It’s tough,” added Peters.

“It’s a long journey up and a long journey back before a quick turnaround to Tuesday. It’s one of the reasons the gaffer has such a big squad, to be able to rotate when he needs to.

“We’ll see how the boys are, but essentially, we want to keep this run going. We’ll look for a big performance and hopefully another three points.

“They (the fans) really showed up. There was only one set of fans that turned up today and that was ours. The final whistle went, and they were still singing their songs. We love our fans.

“Performances are strong we’ve turned a corner so please come down and support.”
