Maidenhead United are still ‘working away’ behind the scenes to smooth the way for what they hope will be a successful planning application to build a new stadium at Braywick Park.

Steve Bough, chairman of Maidenhead Rugby Club has said it would be ‘criminal’ for the borough’s planning body to approve a new stadium that takes away ‘precious’ green training space from the rugby club's juniors.

The club look set to object against the plans when they're submitted.

Maidenhead United chairman, Peter Griffin, said this week that while they would keep an open dialogue with all stakeholders, and look to be ‘good neighbours’, he isn't anticipating the club making big changes to the plans, adding that they’ll have to ‘see how it goes’ when the application goes in.

He said: “We’re still working away behind the scenes. There’s a lot of work still ongoing. There is consultation and the plans are being worked and then re-worked.

“We’re looking to put our planning application in sometime in the new year, hopefully early in the new year, that’s the plan.

“It’s all very much as it has been. There are no changes or differences to it and we’re pushing ahead. Hopefully in the new year we’ll get some momentum behind it and off we go.”

On the objections received from Maidenhead RFC, he added: “We’ve reached out and there’s a lot of consultation ongoing. I guess when we get to the final planning application going in, we’ll just have to see how it goes. We’re determined to try and be good neighbours and keep as much dialogue and communication going as possible. That’s the case now and it will be going forward as well.”
