Holyport FC and Burnham FC go head to head in Subsidiary Cup semi final

Jamie Handscombe (Holyport) Tom Kemp (Burnham)

Local rivals Holyport FC and Burnham FC go head to head for the second time in cup action this season as they meet tonight in the Hellenic League Subsidiary Cup semi finals at Summerleaze Village.

The two Hellenic League One East sides are both enjoying fine seasons and silverware would no doubt be the cherry on the cake for both teams, with Burnham in prime position to claim a league title as well.

Paul Shone’s men top the league currently, but Port seem to have their number this season. In the clubs two previous  meetings’ Derek Sweetmans’ side have come out 2-1 winners on both occasions, with Burnham winning the first of their meetings this season 4-2.

The league leaders will be wanting to bounce back from Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Didcot Town Development, where anything but a loss would have seen the Blues wrap up the title.

Holyport will still be without Jonny Feaver and Adam Sharp who are on the long-term injury list at Summerleaze, but will be buoyed by Fabian Driffills’ continuing good form – the forward notched his 50th goal in 70 appearances in Saturday’s 2-0 win against Wallingford Town.

The game will no doubt be a closely fought affair if previous results are anything to go by. This evenings game kicks off at 7.45pm at Summerleaze Village with the winners facing Easington Sports or Malmesbury Victoria in the final.
