Amartey's wonder-goal keeps Flackwell Heath's slim hopes of promotion alive

Ascot United 2, Flackwell Heath 2

A solo goal from Flackwell Heath’s Francis Amartey kept their slim hopes of promotion alive at Ascot United on Tuesday night.

Most of the action took place in the first half, as the Yellamen raced into a two goal lead before being pegged back by the Heathens.

Flackwell’s Mitchel Woodward was then dismissed in the second half, after kicking out at Trevor Mutero, but neither side was able to come up with a late winner.

Mo Davies bundled Ascot in front from close range in the opening minutes, before Louis Bouwers put Barry Dunbar in on goal, and he rounded the keeper to make it 2-0 after only eight minutes. Flackwell hit back when Amartey’s low strike beat Lee Allen in the 10th minute before Amartey led the Yellamen defence a merry dance to squeeze home an equaliser just after the half-hour mark.

Heathen’s boss Marcus Richardson said: “He picked the ball up on the halfway line and went through players like they weren’t there – he is a scary talent.”

Ascot 1, Abingdon United 1

On Saturday the Yellamen were forced to share the spoils after an entertaining 1-1 draw with Abingdon United at The Racecourse Ground.

Ascot’s new signing Barry Dunbar opened the scoring in the 10th minute, slotting under Ed Cavanagh from George Lock’s cross. But Abingdon, who’d picked up 11 points from a possible 18 prior to their visit, levelled things up through Callum Harvey’s beautiful chip five minutes before the interval.

Both sides struck the crossbar after that but neither side was able to find the net.

Ascot visit Wantage Town this afternoon (Saturday).
