Guests embraced the ‘vibrant colours, music and spirit of Bollywood’ as they attended Maidenhead Bridge Rotary Club’s Indian Cultural Night.
Back for its third year running, the event on Saturday (November 8) at Holyport Memorial Hall attracted more than 100 guests.
They were treated to an ‘unforgettable evening’ of song, dance and authentic Indian cuisine, in support of Rotary’s Vocational Training Team (VTT) and the local Parkinson’s UK Support Group.
The entertainment featured celebrity dance choreographer Chittal Shah and vocal performer Atul Pushkarna, whose Bollywood-style renditions of western music challenged guests to ‘guess the tune’.
Chittal has worked alongside a host of Bollywood stars including Priyanka Chopra, Hrithik Roshan and Akshay Kumar.
Her music ‘brought the magic of Indian cinema to Maidenhead, inspiring many to join her on the dance floor’, organisers said.
Atul put a creative Bollywood-style twist on some classic western hits, which the team called a highlight of the night, with guests laughing, guessing and trying to sing along.
Guests also enjoyed a three-course traditional Indian meal featuring lamb kebabs, channa masala, aloo tikki, chicken curry, daal makhni, aloo gobhi, pilau rice, kulfi and gulab jamun. The money raised from the event will go towards two causes, one of which is the Rotary’s Vocational Training Team, which is preparing for a mission to Uganda to support child health and maternal initiatives.
The second is the local Parkinson’s UK Support Group, which provides support and companionship to those living with the condition and their families.
Rajan Gujral, event organiser and member of Maidenhead Bridge Rotary Club, said: “The Bollywood theme really brought everyone together in the true spirit of joy, colour, and giving.
“We’re so grateful to everyone who attended and supported the evening — their generosity will make a real difference to the lives of others.”
Club president Archana Nath said: “Our Indian Cultural Night is always a highlight of the year, and this one was no exception.
“It’s amazing to see our community come together to celebrate culture while supporting such worthy causes. A huge thank you to everyone who helped make it such a success.”
The Maidenhead Bridge Rotary Club is planning to continue its tradition of hosting ‘vibrant and impactful’ events, which bring together the community while supporting local and international causes.
