Yasir Kawaja fired off five sixes in making 171 as Taplow defeated Chiswick & Whitton by 89 runs in TVL Division 3B on Saturday.
Batting first on Saturday the visitors were indebted to a mammoth opening stand of 266 between Khawaja and Mohammad Ilyas (86) while Habib Khan finished on 41 not out as Taplow finished on 329-4 off 45 overs.
Chiswick & Whitton’s reply quickly ran into trouble, as Habib Khan (3-57) removed openers Harpreet Bhatia (14) and Jayesh Shah (2) while Dale Barton
(2-29) took a couple of wickets to leave the home side on 67-4.
Aman Chopra resisted with 54 before falling lbw to Khan, while Jas Malhotra was there at the end on 40 not out, but Chiswick were bowled out 89 runs shy of their target. Taplow collected 20 points for the win and will host NLP on Saturday.
Marlow Park’s match against Wokingham Oaks & Acorns was forfeited by their rivals at the weekend, gifting the promotion challengers 20 points.
Park had been leading the way in TVL Division 9A – after several comprehensive victories – but drop to second after Saturday’s results, level on 80 points with Stoke Green 4ths. Marlow Park face a top-of-the-table clash at Stoke Green 4ths on Saturday.
Wooburn Narkovians plunged into the TVL Division 4B relegation zone on Saturday after suffering a 156-run defeat to Stoke Green 2nds.
The home side were up against it from the moment they lost the toss, with opener Qasim Wajid their main tormentor, smashing 124 before retiring.
Mark Tennant (2-23) and Ben Barker (2-50) each took a couple of wickets as Narkovians attempted to stem the flow of runs, but half centuries from Irham Mughal (66no) and Farhan Sheikh (53) further down the order gave struggling Narkovians a mountain to climb.
Their top order made a solid enough start, with Stuart McLaughlin top scoring with 38, but the hosts were always well behind the run rate required to challenge for victory.
Arjun Kashyap finished with his side’s best figures of 6-36 as Narkovians were bowled out for 183 in the 33rd over.
They picked up 10 points for their efforts but drop into the bottom two ahead of Saturday’s clash at Marlow 2nds.
White Waltham ran out of overs as they failed to chase down hosts Theale and Tilehurst for victory in Thames Valley Division 4A on Saturday.
Batting first hosts Theale made 259-7 from their 45 overs, with Andy Sharp (45), Mohammad Jamil (57), Luke Shepherd (52) and Robert Dimmack (57) producing the standout contributions.
Ben Scarborough did his best to slow the run rate, taking 4-40 and removing the dangerous Jamil and Theale captain Hammad Ali (4).
But with 28 extras boosting their total to 259-7 Theale had provided White Waltham with a pretty daunting chase.
Their reply didn’t get off to the best of starts, with Chris Metherell (10) and Simon Jessup (16) failing to get their eye in.
Chunky contributions came from the bats of Nikhil Jathavedan (39), Sam Warren (42), Dan Molloy (42) and Andy Elliott (41) but they ran out of time, finishing 13 runs shy on 246-8.
White Waltham host Reading 2nds on Saturday.
