A new Co-op convenience store at the One Maidenhead development in the town centre is likely to open in the ‘first quarter’ of next year, a spokesperson has said.
In December 2024, a licensing application was submitted to the Royal Borough by MK & Saiji Company Limited, which planned to run the new store under the ‘Welcome’ brand.
The ‘Welcome’ brand is the convenience store franchise business of Southern Co-op.
A spokesperson for Southern Co-op has said that while there is ‘still no firm date’ for the store’s opening it is ‘likely to be in the first quarter of 2026’.
The major One Maidenhead regeneration scheme launched in June 2024 and consists of 429 flats and ground floor retail units.
Two national food brands have already opened their doors at the development.
In June, Pret A Manger opened its new format store, featuring a more spacious, sit-down area at 7 Garden Boulevard.
Shortly after, popular Peri-Peri restaurant Nando’s started welcoming guests to its new 124-seater venue at Unit 3 Grenfell Island, at the end of June.
The licensing application for the new Southern Co-op store sought approval to sell alcohol (off premises) from Monday to Sunday from 6am to 11pm.
The application documents stated that the premises would sell ‘all types of convenience products’, including fresh and frozen food, toiletries, newspapers and household items.
It added that customers would also be able to pay bills and collect and send packages.
The application stated that alcohol is not intended to be the focal point of the business and there is an expectation that sale of alcohol ‘will have a limited impact’ on the area.
The licence was issued by the Royal Borough in December 2024.
