Family, friends and customers gathered outside a new pottery studio in Maidenhead on Saturday as the town’s MP cut a bow to officially declare the business open.
Bisque-It Studio in the Nicholsons Centre is the brainchild of Maidenhead resident Loiza Tallon and provides a space for customers to indulge in creativity.
The studio offers pottery painting sessions and there is also a play zone for youngsters, called The Pottery Patch.
The studio opened to the public in a soft launch earlier this month.
But its grand opening on Saturday saw may supporters and customers come along to enjoy a day of free activities, snacks, drinks and pottery painting fun.
At 11am, MP Josh Reynolds joined Loiza at the entrance to the studio where a large handmade bow, created by Lucia Norman, a member of the Bisque-It Studio team, was ready to be cut.
In her speech, Loiza said: “Today [Saturday] is a really special day for all of us here at Bisque-It Studio.
“We’ve spent the last few weeks really perfecting our business and our pottery painting business and Bisque-It is really about [our] Maidenhead community and bringing our community together to do something fun – something for all ages.”
Mr Reynolds added: “I think this is absolutely fantastic.
“This is a local business, this is a Maidenhead business and how Maidenhead is it that we’ve got this right in the middle of our town centre, it’s absolutely fantastic.
“This is the kind of thing we should encourage more and more, and I can’t wait to see it thrive over the next few months and few years.”
There was plenty of cheering and clapping as Mr Reynolds cut the bow to officially declare the new studio open.
There were lots of activities to enjoy on the day, including face painting, an animal balloon farm and free balloons were also being given out.
Loiza said she came up with the idea for the new studio after finding herself going out of the town to do activities with her two young children.
She added: “I just thought, we do need something in Maidenhead for all ages, not just for children and I feel Bisque-It really represents that.”
Loiza explained that Bisque-It Studio is the ‘only pottery studio in the area that offers a glazed and unglazed price’.
As well as home education classes, the studio also offers adult paint and Prosecco evenings on the last Friday of each month, with guests also treated to food platters.
Feedback from customers over the last three weeks since opening has been ‘amazing’ and ‘beyond anything’ she expected so soon after opening, Loiza said.
“We’ve been so busy that we’ve had to have a backlog of all of the pottery that needs to go off for firing and glazing.
“So, it's a great challenge to have, but we’re really super grateful to our community who’ve come in and supported us so early in our journey,” she added.
Future plans for the studio include expanding services to offer pottery painting workshops, pottery throwing and teaching customers how to make their own pottery.
Reflecting on the grand opening, Loiza added: “[I’m] really overwhelmed by how many people turned up to see us and find out more.
“We already feel like we’ve made some really great friendships with our customers and seeing them coming back and, of course, new customers, has been really heart-warming.
“So, we’re really happy with how things are going at Bisque-It Studio so far and we hope to welcome more customers very soon.”
Mr Reynolds said: “It’s really great to be able to be opening Bisque-It Studio today [Saturday].
“It’s a fantastic facility to have in Maidenhead, painting pottery [is] great fun for kids and adults alike.
“It just adds even more to be able to do in Maidenhead town centre.”
