Windsor 1, Burnham 2
Windsor and Burnham went head-to-head on Tuesday night over at Stag Meadow with the bragging rights on the line.
The Royalists took the lead inside 15 minutes with George Gould finding the net from Dylan Ive’s corner kick. But Gavin James didn't let that go unchallenged with the number nine equalising 20 minutes later to give Mark Cooper plenty to mull over at half time.
From a dominant display in the second half, Cameron Rohart-Brown snatched Burnham the victory in the 82nd minute.
Blues boss Paul Shone was pleased his team had ‘ground out’ a result.
“One thing we demand from the players is to never give up and go right to the end because you never know what could happen,” said Shone. “Most teams would have settled for the draw but we felt there was three points there to be had and credit to the lads who pushed for that.”
Windsor and Burnham clashed two weeks ago, with the Blues winning 1-0 at the Gore. But since their meeting, they’ve endured contrasting runs of form.
Windsor have struggled with an absence of forward options and postponements and have slipped to 11th in the Hellenic Premier League. In contrast Burnham earned their fourth win in five matches with Tuesday's victory over Windsor, and bounced back from Saturday’s defeat to Lydney Town. They're up to ninth in the table.
Windsor visit Bishops Cleeve and Burnham go to Longlevens AFC this Saturday.
