Burnham emphatically underlined their Hellenic League Division 1 East title credentials with an 11-0 thumping of Abingdon Town on Saturday.
A hat-trick from Oliver Harris, braces from Dean Allen, Aiden Higgs and Dan Molloy, plus goals from Ryan Tackley and Lucas Sinclair ensured a memorable victory for the hosts over second-bottom the Abbots.
Blues boss Paul Shone praised his young side.
“You can argue about the quality of the team Abingdon put out, but to score 11 in any match is very pleasing,” he said.
“All the forwards got on the score sheet, and a centre half too, which is great as we are not relying on one player to get our goals.
“It sets up a platform for the second half of season.”
The Blues came into the match off the back of an entertaining 3-3 draw with Chalvey Sports on Boxing Day having been 2-0 ahead at one stage. Next for Burnham is a trip to face third-placed AFC Aldermaston on January 12, a clash Shone is not taking lightly.
He said: “Aldermaston will be a tough one.
“It’s not a great place to go and is sure to be a fierce contest.
“We beat them 5-3 earlier in season, and would be delighted to score five again, but any win would be good for us.”
Shone says he’s comfortable with his squad but is looking to increase their depth of goal scorers.
He said: “The squad is healthy, but I would like to add a forward to the pack, as all the forwards are playing every game at the moment.
“Hopefully we can bring someone in during the next seven to 10 days.”
