Holyport Village Show sees young winners scoop prizes

The village enjoyed its annual show on Saturday – with a coronation theme this year, write Jessica Hancock and Mia Robbins.

The village show saw the return of competitions in baking, handicrafts, home-grown produce and flowers. There was a new entry age group for teenagers this year.

There were lots of ‘incredible’ entries – Edward Thompson, age five, won five trophies, including the best Lego for ages 5-8 years.

The heaviest pumpkin in the show weighed in at 9.5kg.

Rebecca De Jager won best in show for best collection of vegetables.

The children's categories included a picture category, where Donaldson Class from Holyport Primary School entered a huge stamp of King Charles with all their handprints.

This year’s youngest competitor was Neve Brandon at only 18 months old, competing in the iced biscuits class.

Beverly Petts took home the WI trophy as well as the trophies for the most points overall.

The Taylor cup – awarded to the family who gain the most cumulative points in the show – was won by the Hancock family for the fifth year running.

“It's fun and great community spirit,” said Lynsey Robbins, one of the volunteers for the event.
