Maidenhead Athletic Club (MAC) members will see planned races curtailed and postponed in the next four weeks, as the country goes back into lockdown. But Ed Dimmock, Jen Francis, Sam Gillespie and Chris Sutton were able to squeeze in one last run together last weekend.

The four of them took on the Marlow Virtual Half Marathon but substituted the countryside of Marlow for the beauty of Maidenhead and its surroundings.

Setting off in glorious autumnal conditions on Sunday morning they ticked off 13.1miles while taking in some of their favoured spots and routes. Starting on Cookham Moor they took in the Thames Pat before completing a quick circuit of the Maidenhead parkrun. They ran around Braywick Park’s track before heading for Bisham Woods and rounding off with a sprint finish back to Cookham. All four of them finished the half marathon in 2.15.43.

Reflecting on the run, Ed said: “A great morning run, accompanied by an eclectic music mix and rounded off with beers and burgers in the pub, making the most of a last opportunity to run and socialise.

“Results submitted to the event website, sadly not victorious, but we’re waiting to hear if our crocodile log snap wins the photo competition.”
