Maids eclipsed by Sunbury

12:00am Thu 31st Jan 08

Sunbury 4, Maidenhead 2
MAIDENHEAD'S men’s 1stts’impressive winning-streak ended on Saturday when they disappointingly went down to strugglers Sunbury.
The hosts were ahead after just 55 seconds and went 2-0 up after just five minutes.
Despite Nick Fletcher pulling one back midway through the half, Maids were frustrated in their efforts to equalise and went into half-time 3-1 down after a penalty stroke was awarded to Sunbury.

Some pretty frank words from coach Kali Takher at half-time seemed to spring his boys to life as they went on to dominate the second half.
Maidenhead got particular joy down their right hand side with Phil Cowell and Ant Jones frequently getting past their men.
Despite the vast majority of possession, Maids just could not find their way back into the game, and they weren’t helped when Jez Bodey’s goal was harshly disallowed by the umpire.
The same player did eventually pull a goal back from one of many short corners, but sadly the lead did not last long as Sunbury scored their fourth and the game’s last goal on the counter
Maids: Osbon, Brown, Sood (c), Ferrand, Cowell, Bodey, Wood, Hodson, Jones, Joys, Luff, Nott, Fletcher.

Maids captain Neel Sood said: “That’s a bad result from us, we paid the price for those 10 minutes of madness at the start. We were rubbish to say the least.
“We made far too many basic errors in that period and that's where they won the game.
“We need to bounce back as soon as we can. Sonning on Saturday will be very tough, but if we play anything like what we did in the second half against Sundury, I've no doubt we can get a result.”
