Maids make it five

12:00am Mon 21st Jan 08

Maidenhead 1sts made it a famous five wins on the bounce as they brushed aside high-flying Chiswick at Altwood on Saturday.

The 1-0 victory extends their unbeaten run that stretches back to November 17 and moves them into joint fourth-place in the league table.

A tight first half ended goalless but it was Maidenhead who enjoyed the best of the early exchanges.

After the interval Maids moved through the gears, determined to press home their dominance in territory and possession.

Their forays increased in focus and they were soon awarded a short corner after an incisive break by Jeremy Bodey.

Ant Jones’ fizzing shot was blocked but Carl Ferrand ghosted in to flick home the rebound.

Maids continued to lay seige to the Chiswick goal but failed to take a host of good chances to extend their lead.

As the game went on Chiswick began to find their feet and only stubborn defence from Maids saw them hang on.

Maids captain Neel Sood was thrilled. He said: “It was a really satisfying win for us against a side who have been in the top three for most of the season, it’s given us a massive boost.

“In the first half we played some quality attacking hockey and looked more likely to score. After we did score we had to dig in and scrap to protect the lead. It’s good to be able to have both sides to our game.”

Maids will be looking to make it six in a row when they travel to Sunbury at the weekend.
