Maids hit five past Slough

12:00am Mon 14th Jan 08

Maidenhead moved into the top five of the league with a hugely impressive 5-2 victory over former European Champions Slough - their fourth consecutive win.

Maids dominated this encounter from the off to extend their unbeaten run that goes back to their 7-0 defeat at the hands of High Wycombe on November 17.

They were ahead after just five minutes when Tim Nott finished well, and five minutes later captain Neel Sood doubled the lead ramming home a penalty stroke, awarded after Maids were deliberately obstructed in the act of shooting.

Five minutes later it was 3-0, Anthony Jones raced down the right wing and fired in a cross that was deflected in at the near post.

Slough’s Mansoor Ahmed pulled a goal back for the hosts but Jones’ solid short corner strike restored the three-goal cushion shortly at half-time.

Ahmed added a second for Slough after half-time but Maids never looked in danger of letting this slip.
Jeremy Bodey completed the scoring, tucking away another Jones cross.

Captain Neel Sood was delighted with his side’s win, saying: “That was an outstanding performance from back to front, we really deserved our win.

“It would have been easy to sit back, stop them playing and counter, but we played to our strengths rather than pander to theirs, and got our rewards.

“The whole squad deserves praise for the effort that went into that game, it was nice to see us create and take our chances.”

Maids will be looking to make it five wins in a row on Saturday when they host Chiswick at Altwood (2pm start).
