Berkshire triathletes excel at Dorney Lake

Berkshire Tri Squad (BTS) had four racers in the top 30 in the last of the F3 evening triathlons held at Dorney Lake last Wednesday.

The race - which involved a 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run - featured 264 competitors, among them 26 BTS athletes who were also competing for their club champiobship.

Chris Taylor, the reigning club champion, won the the BTS event and came second overall, narrowly missing out by just tyhree seconds to Sharkie Jaggard who recorded a time of 1:01.38.Taylor recorded the fastest time in the veteran age category. 

Lee Charles and Guy Middleton finished eighth and 18th respectively in the seniors race, with times of 01:04.28 and 01:06.57.

In the female race BTS's Tsumi Wharton took seventh place and Julia Hodkinson ninth, the latter recording the fastest time in the veteran women's category.

- Berkshire Tri Squad are the largest local triathlon club with more than 100 members, and is based in Windsor, Ascot and Maidenhead, with athletes competing for GB World and European Championships through to novice triathletes and first-time competitors.

- F3 Events are holding the Orca Triathlon on Sunday, September 14 at Dorney Lake and are expecting more than 1,000 competitors to take part.

The event starts at approximately 7am with the Orca Sprint Distance Triathlon which consists of a 750 metre swim, 20km bike and 5km run.

The Orca Olympic Distance Triathlon consists of the most popular triathlon with a 1,500 metre swim, 40km bike and a 10km run which starts at 9.30am.
