Every game is a cup final - Sher

8:06am Fri 15th Aug 08:: written by Steve Spencer

Every game is now a cup final for Slough CC if they are to survive in Home Counties Division 1, according to skipper Bobby Sher.

A complete washout at the weekend meant that all teams received six points, keeping it very tight at the bottom of the table.

Four games are left for Slough this season and two of their matches are against opponents who are in the same boat and struggling for survival - Henley and Falkland.

Slough also face leaders Tring Park in the penultimate match, but first up is midtable Welwyn Garden City.

Victory in all four will definitely secure safety and that is precisely what Sher is aiming for, with a little help from above!

“There’s four games left and these are four cup finals,” stated Sher. “It was very disappointing not to play at the weekend but there’s nothing you can do about it.

“Each game is very important . We will work hard each week to be ready for the games and that’s all we can do.

“Hopefully the big guy up there can smile down on us! Every game is a cup final now.

“We need to throw out what we’ve been doing so far this season and take every game as the biggest game we’ve played this year.

“We need to win at least two out of four, but that might not even secure safety so we need to win them all ideally.”

Tomorrow’s (Saturday’s) opponents Welwyn are still in with a shout of winning the league if other results go their way and they win their remaining matches, something Sher is all too aware of going into the game.

He said: “If you look at Welwyn, in a couple of wins they can be in with a chance of winning the league. It will be a tough game.”
