Desborough ease past Oxford
12:00am Mon 7th Jan 08
A fine home display by Desborough was the main feature of their 94-31 success over Oxford & District in their Egham Trophy clash on Sunday.
Marshalled by John McGuinness and Maurice Woodley, the two home rinks powered out of the blocks getting seven and five shots respectively in the first end and never looked back.
John McGuinness had June Essex at lead and Maggie Scrace and Peter McGuinness playing two and three, and by the 13th end they had totted up 34 shots without reply, while Maurice Woodley with Gordon Knapper, Yvonne Tilley and Lorraine Woodley, were 21-4 ahead after 11 ends.
At Oxford the scoring was closer and Matthew Hyde’s team of Pam Armstrong, Katrina Jones and Len Essex had fallen behind 8-2 after five ends, but within a further five ends pulled back to level matters 10-10.
Alan Price, Eileen Devonald-Batt, Mar-garet Hooper and Debbie Stavrou got into their stride and turned an early three-shot lead into seven in the 10th end then pulled away to finish the match 22-10 up.
The scoring was incessant for Desbor-ough and the match ended with them as 94-31 winners.
