Thicket get revenge on Windsor & Eton

On Friday afternoon, Maidenhead Thicket A visited Windsor & Eton for a Kennet LX match against their A team.

In a match spoilt by rain and two rinks now bowling out, Thicket were well ahead on those two rinks but the third rink just lost having played in torrential rain. Thicket won by 8-2 points and overall by 35 shots.

This was a good result having lost by one shot earlier in the season.

The highest winning rink was skipped by David Scrace with Les McDowell and Ken Butler who had a field-day winning on 13 of the 17 ends played. At four ends, the score was 2-2 but from then on there was little reply from the home side scoring just three shots to the visitors’ 30, giving Thicket a 27-shot win.

Ron Mitchison, Keith Amos and Brian Nash were too strong for John Read and company and led from start to finish. The Thicket side won 11 of the 16 ends played to win by 10 shots.

Nigel Wheeler, Ray Childs and Ken Scowen started slowly and found themselves 6-0 down after three ends but a fightback saw them take the lead 12-11 on the 12th end and then be 16-12 up with three ends to play only to be overcome by bowling in heavy rain and lose out by two shots.
