Maids make it three in a row

12:00am Mon 10th Dec 07

Maids go into the winter break on the back of three successive wins following their 5-2 victory over Ramgharia on Saturday.

This was another fine performance from Maids who battled back from two goals down at half-time to take a memorable victory.

It was far from the perfect start, Maids conceded twice in the opening 10 minutes, with the visitors’ slick counter-attacking causing the exposed hosts’ defence problems.
But Maids regrouped, building patiently and keeping the ball in key areas.

Their patience was rewarded in the 15th minute, when a  Ramgharia defender blocked a goal-bound shot with his body.

The umpire awarded Maids a penalty stroke, and it was captain courageous Neel Sood who kept his cool to dispatch the flick.

The hosts continued to dominate after the half-time interval and they were soon on the scoresheet when Greg Joys burst down the left, cut it and applied a neat finish to level the scores at 2-2.

By now Maids were in the ascendency, their third goal followed minutes later and Jez Bodey added a superbly taken fourth soon after.

Maids saved their best for last, a swift move which started at the back made its way to Ant Jones on the right.
Jones skipped past three defenders, drove into the D and laid the ball off to Andrew Wood, who slotted home to push Maids into fifth place in the league.
Captain Sood was delighted with his side’s courage under fire.

He said: “We could easily have capitulated after going two down so early on in the game.

“But we showed good collective character to come back and even at 2-0 we played some good hockey.
“Once we pulled it back to 2-2 we were in total control and I think the opposition’s heads went down which made things easier for us.

“We didn’t play to their strengths as we have done in a couple of games, which was pleasing from our point of view.”
Maids are not back in action until the New Year and Sood admits his troops are looking forward to the break.
He added: “We have a bit of a break now, which we deserve as we’ve worked hard.
“But we will need to be sharp and ready to face Slough when the league resumes, we know it will be a really tough game.”
