All change for Maidenhead Rugby Club
12:07pm Thu 15th May 08:: written by Graeme Copas
It's all change at the top as Maidenhead RFC makes strides to leave behind its ‘Edwardian’ roots.
At the club’s annual general meeting, John Wanklyn was appointed chairman and chief executive, while Ricky Khan (both pictured) was approved as the club’s head coach - both roles previously held by Simon Edwards.
Wanklyn was quick to emphasise the club’s change in structure and direction, while acknowledging the enormity of his new role.
He said: “The difference is that we are going to a squad system. Ricky will be head coach of a 40-45 man elite squad and hopefully this will start the process of bridging the gap between 1sts and 2nds and fulfil our aim of playing in South West 1 and then the national leagues.
“Ricky will be assisted by a backs coach and two forwards coaches, one of which will be Allan Greene.
There will also be two development managers who will implement a more professional approach to the structure which includes managing individual player development programmes.
