Drax claims top award

9:00am Fri 2nd May 08:: written by Graeme Copas

Maidenhead United's flurry of points in the final five matches of the season has seen Maidenhead United's Johnson Hippolyte rewarded with the Blue Square Conference South manager of the month award.

The Magpies began April with the threat of relegation hanging over them after defeat at fellow strugglers Dorchester Town.

However, Hippolyte’s side then went on to win three successive matches against Bishop's Stortford, Weston-Super-Mare and Havant, scoring 10 goals and only conceding once, to ease their fears of the drop.

Two further clean sheets in their final two games - draws with St Albans City and Basingstoke Town - gave them the points for a respectable 17th placed finish and another season in the Conference South.

Commenting on the award, Hippolyte said: "It's nice to win the award and it shows what an achievement staying up was for the club.

"Some people thought we were dead and buried but the players didn't give up and it's nice to be rewarded for the effort."
