Relegation D-Day for Maids

12:24pm Fri 18th Apr 08:: written by Graeme Copas

As equations go, it's very straightforward for Maidenhead RFC tomorrow.

Firstly beat Coney Hill. Secondly pray Reading lose. Thirdly, party! Maids' topsy-turvy season really has come down to this.

After they scrambled and side-stepped their way to a dramatic win over Old Patesians, and Reading lost at Cleve, Maids have earned themselves a lifeline and it¹s one they intend to grab.

Although it's still slightly out of their hands (if Reading beat Bracknell then Maids are relegated regardless), the Braywick side know that they must beat Coney Hill on Saturday to stand any chance of staying in South West 1.

Maids' coach Simon Edwards is sure his team are ready for the fight saying: "We are not getting ahead of ourselves but we know how important this is.
"Last week was like a semi-final, this week is the final. We went down there two years ago and beat them in the cup, we just have to do this again. Trust me, we are really focused."

Edwards added: "When I looked at the fixtures at the start of the season, I remember thinking 'I hope we don't have to go down there and need to win to get the title or avoid relegation'. Well, we do.
"They are a strong home side, will have a lot of support and come into the match on the back of a very good win at Oxford Harlequins. So it's going to be a tough one."

Kick-off is 2.30pm.
