Cooper: Players going through the motions

One of Maidenhead United's key players has given a no holds barred perspective on the club's current plight.
Grant Cooper, who was one of United's star players in last season¹s promotion campaign, says he feels some of the squad have been coasting towards the end instead of rolling their sleeves up for a fight.
He said: "It's got to a point where we are in trouble and we should never have been anywhere near it.
"Whether it¹s because people took their foot off the gas, or seeing the season out, whatever it is, it's a crazy situation."
Cooper who has only just recovered from injury then illness believes it is time that some of the players changed their attitude.
"I have obviously been on the sidelines for a while now," he said.
"From where I am sitting I have been watching some of the boys just going through the motions. It's not on.
"What we have all got to realise is that we have got ourselves in this position and we need to get ourselves out of it. It's time some of the boys pulled their finger out and pull it out fast. It's just crazy that we are in this situation."
Cooper formed a key partnership with Dominic Sterling towards the end of last season and the defender admits some of the changes to the squad haven¹t come off.
He added: "I think there have been some unnecessary changes from last season.
"We needed a big front man, Carl (Wilson-Denis) has come in and not done it and John Hastings was just a waste of time.
"Obviously Manny has been a breath of fresh air, but a lot of the players who have come in just haven't done it."
However, Cooper believes there is still time to prevent the club sliding back into the Southern Premier Division.
He added: "Everyone is working hard to stay up, the chairman, the manager and everyone at the club.
"Drax has still got the respect of the players and of course we can get out of it. But the boys need to dig in now.
"It's simple, we have to win games and people need to realise that asap."
