Bad day at the office

8:00am Mon 5th Nov 07

First team captain Neel Sood described the match as ‘a bad day at the office’, it was certainly one Maids will want to put behind them in a hurry.

Maids were under pressure from the whistle, as Amersham used their experience and pace to pin them back for long periods of the opening exchanges.

Amersham went ahead after 20 minutes before doubling their lead from a short-corner.

But Maids were a different side after the break, as Phil Cowell and Ant Jones began to cause problems for the hosts.
Their renewed purpose paid off soon after as Maids cut the deficit with Jones winning a short corner which Joel Forrester despatched with venom.

But despite a strong second half display it was in vain as Amersham hung on for a narrow win.

Captain Neel Sood was disappointed with the defeat.
He said: “That was a really bad day at the office – we have been playing very well recently, so to lose as we did was disappointing.

“We made far too many basic errors in the first half which allowed the opposition to play the game the way they wanted to rather than the other way around.

“We turned that around in the second half played some excellent hockey, as we know we can, but it was uphill after the first half, the momentum was with the opposition.”
Maids have the perfect opportunity to bounce back this weekend as they take on the league leaders Milton Keynes.
