Rowers to get their revenge

12:00am Wed 3rd Oct 07

Team Harry will be taking part in the triathlon to raise money for meningitis charities in memory of Marlow’s Harry Mills who died from the illness in April this year, aged only 11.

Marlow Rowing Club, who host the event on the other side of the Thames in Higginson Park, will also be naming a scull boat after the sport-loving youngster at the start of the day on Sunday, October 7.

The Fitness First-sponsored challenge includes rowing, running and cycling, but with the rowing taking place on dry land on ergo machines.

More than 300 names are down to take part so far, of which more than 30 so far are doing it for Team Harry.

The event is called the Rowers’ Revenge as it substitutes swimming with rowing. Now in its 11th year, it has expanded from only 32 entries in its first year, to a record 450 two years ago and attracts people of all abilities from across the country. Competitors row 4km, cycle 25km and run 7.5km.

The rowing takes place either in a marquee or in Court Garden leisure centre; the cycle route is a circuit from Marlow and the run crosses Marlow Bridge, through Bisham and back to Higginson Park.
