Controversial goal denies Magpies

10:26am Wed 28th Jul 10

Maidenhead United were denied a victory against Hayes & Yeading United last night by a controversial late equaliser from the visitors.

The Magpies had been leading thanks to Kieran Knight's second half strike but the visitors snatched a 1-1 draw with a goal which left United boss Johnson Hippolyte scratching his head in disbelief.

Pierre Dubois' volley smashed against the crossbar and bounced down on the line before being cleared, but the linesman said it had crossed and awarded the goal.

Hippolyte joked: "We played on and they played on but the linesman gave it.

"The only thing that saved him from me kicking him was that it was a friendly.

"It was a little bit disappointing to draw but it was still a very good work out."
